Athletically he’s so gifted. And he combines that with hard work both in the game and in practice. He keeps working on his game and getting better. His attitude was just special in the interview we had. He’s humble, but confident. He doesn’t draw attention to himself, but when he speaks he sounds like a leader. I worry about his jump shot a little and his ball handling, too. But I really feel like he’s going to get better. And if he does? We’ll all regret not taking him. All of us.
ESPN’s Chad Ford talks about the NBA Draft Combine winners, including this quote from a GM on Victor Oladipo (http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/blog/_/name/nba_draft/id/9294289/2013-nba-draft-combine-sees-steven-adams-tim-hardaway-jr-impress-nerlens-noel-top-pick)

It was great to see Victor and Cody at Friday’s NBA Draft Combine in Chicago! The 2013 NBA Draft will be held on June 27.

“We are excited to have Evan Gordon join our University and our program. Evan has been a productive and proven player throughout his college career. He can score, he makes his teammates better and is a clutch player. Defensively, his physical strength and speed have helped him be a strong individual and team defender. Evan will bring leadership, a work ethic and seriousness that will help make our program better. We are very excited about his desire to get his master’s degree in athletic administration/sports management which is one of the top graduate programs of its kind. He has done an outstanding job academically during his career and we expect he will do the same here.” - Tom Crean, Indiana Head Men’s Basketball Coach

His incredible intensity and Indiana’s ‘work culture’ transformed him from a potentially good Big Ten player to a likely NBA lottery pick. On both ends, he is an excellent anticipation defender, a relentless rebounder and an attacking slasher … (on draft prospects with the Best Motor) There’s Oladipo and then everyone else.
ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla on Victor Oladipo

Indiana Associate Head Coach Tim Buckley on the emotions of helping the program with a Big Ten Championship: “You hear people say all the time `you have to take it one day at a time’ and that’s truly what we had to do six years ago. To see it get to the point to where it has been the last two seasons is very fulfilling and rewarding. It has taught me not to take winning for granted. It is something that doesn’t happen very often and it is not easy. To be able to play at the level that we did the past two years, with all that went into it from the staff to the players to the people around the program to the fans, it was a very rewarding experience.”

Since 2012, 10 Hoosiers have earned an undergraduate degree from Indiana University and four have earned a master’s degree. On May 4, Indiana honored its Class of 2013 (Jordan Hulls, Derek Elston, Christian Watford, Maurice Creek and Victor Oladipo), who accumulated five undergraduate degrees and two master’s degrees in their time at IU.

Indiana Associate Head Coach Steve McClain on the impact of Cook Hall: “From a recruiting point of view it has been unbelievable. It has been a great thing for the whole program. Whether a kid is a recruit or when someone walks in this building and what it means to the former players and the fans. But when you get to the basketball part of it, Victor Oladipo is a great example of what this building has meant to the program. Five years ago, we would have had access to a gym, but to be able to come into a facility morning or night and really work on your game … we also saw it in Christian (Watford), Jordan (Hulls) and Will (Sheehey) and now we see it with Yogi (Ferrell) and Jeremy (Hollowell). It is like anything - you have to show that you can get the use out of it and our guys have shown that they can do that.”

Jordan Hulls in his Director’s Award acceptance speech: “The first two years were a struggle, but the last two years made it worth fighting for this program. Thank you to everyone for supporting us through those tough times. It’s been an honor to play for Indiana University and I’ll always be a Hoosier at heart.”

The Spirit of Indiana Director’s Award, presented by IU Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass, is the most prestigious award presented by the department and is given to two senior student-athletes which best represent The Spirit of Indiana: 24 Sports, One Team.
